Le Chatelet reviews

The Crane Family | May 2009

This campsite is just what we were in search of. A quiet site overlooking a lovely bay with a swimming pool and slides for the children and few fun activities to keep them entertained. We explored some fantastic walks near the cliff edge venturing along St Cast to the Pointe du Garde. Here we found the castle, Fort Lalatte, amoungst fabulous views of the Emerald coast.

One day we hired bikes and ventured further a field to discover ruins of a fortress as well as the children being thrilled to find a cluster of caves to explore. The children also enjoyed searching for the special stones known as pierres sonnantes, which made a strange metallic sound when banged together. All in all a great campsite if you want a scenic and less busy holiday.

Can't believe 'le Chatelet' has been awarded three red tents by the Michelin guide. I had respect for the Michelin guide but they have certainly got this one wrong. Basing it on the location then yes, it certainly does boast great views but the site itself needs a lot more tlc. The shower blocks are a fair distance from the mobiles and are not the cleanest to say the leaste. The lake in the center of the park was littered and uncared for and the speed limit set on the site was rarely marshalled. The evening entertainment music was good but the shop was a little too small so a trip to the local supermarket was a necesity. Le Chatelet has potential with it's impressive location but Michelin really should review this site again!

This was our first camping holiday in France. The area was lovely close to the pleasant Le Mont St Michel and impressive beached coves. The beach is within easy access from Le Chatelet campsite but I recommend using the roadway rather than the two marked paths as they can be steep with cliff edges either side, not so good if you have little one’s. The roadway has a pavement and tends to be quiet. The campsite itself was quiet with a small shop, bar and pool. Thankfully the pool is heated and there is a smaller pool for the kids to enjoy.

The kids also enjoyed the play areas and organised football however most days we visited the beach and the kids tended to stay with us rather than attend the kids clubs at the site. A nice campsite which wasn’t too overrun with holidaymakers. Some shabby mobile homes, luckily ours wasn’t one of them, we booked with Keycamp but the park owned mobiles looked good too.
